South Street Honey : The Full Story

Many years ago, as a child, James's parents used to make family visits from there home in Seven Kings, Essex, to some friends in Salisbury, there John Boocock RIP kept a couple of hives of honeybees. From this point, James has been fascinated by nature, the great outdoors, and in particular honey bees.

Fast forward to 2006, and James finally had the chance to take a course on. basic beekeeping, and buy his first colony of bees. The course, as predicted, didn't last very long for James. Finding the very formulaic, pre planned, almost clockwork teachings from books written decades ago, not to his way of thinking. Prefering to learn from experienced keepers, James bought his first colony from Chris Harries, and the story begins......

The hive keepers

For 18 years, we have been providing wooden boxes for honey bees to live in. Minimal management or intrusion, with a very hands off, observation based, holistic, bee centric ethos. The knowledge we have built over the years gives us a wonderful platform to share our passions, understanding, and love for pollinators, but honey bees in particular.

The bees decide the direction and growth of South Street Honey. Our 10th Apiary has just been set up on commercial land in conjunction with STEF-Langdons. Our other apiries are all based in Somerset from Wellington, to Glastonbury.

Our brand new nucleus hives installed at STEF Langdons, Bridgwater.

Simple & Honest Harvests

As hive keepers, we are lucky enough to benefit from the spoils of the bee colonies that live in our hives. We are just the caretakers, and are the lucky ones. Our ethics are the same today as they were back in 2006, and at the heart of our business are the bees. We work in the least intrusive ways possible, only disturbing our hives when we really need to, and if the colonies have no surplus of the spoils of there hard work, we do not harvest.

What we do take from the bees, is prized. Limited single hive runs of honey, are spun and jarred on the same day. We keep things very simple. From hive, to spinner, through a domestic strainer, and into jars. No messing at all.

If you ask us, we can actually tell you the hive the honey has come from, there are very few keepers that can do that!!!!!
